Case Study: PediaBest Packaging Design

Case Study: PediaBest Packaging Design
Introduction

When it comes to children’s supplements, packaging is more than just a container it becomes part of the product experience. Parents want trust, safety, and clarity. Children, however, are driven by curiosity, fun, and imagination. PediaBest, a nutritional supplement brand, managed to combine these two worlds through a playful yet highly functional packaging design that went on to win international recognition.

The Project
  • Brand: PediaBest (Portugal)
  • Design Studio: DEEEZ Studio (Iran)
  • Designers: Mostafa Seyed Ebrahimi & Yekta Jabali
  • Year: 2019
  • Award: Bronze Winner at Pentawards 2020 in the “Baby & Kids” category

The Concept

The central idea behind the design was to make the packaging interactive and engaging for children. Inspired by flip books and pop-up storybooks, the designers created boxes that included two-frame illustrations:
  • Frame One: A cheerful animal character (bear, giraffe, crocodile, deer) with its mouth open, waiting for a spoon or drop of the supplement.
  • Frame Two: The same character transformed after “taking” the supplement the bear gets sleepy, the crocodile grows chubbier, the deer grows antlers, and so on.

This visual storytelling turned every dose into a mini-experience, encouraging children to see the supplement not as “medicine” but as a fun ritual.

Visual & Functional Innovation
  1. Dual-purpose design – While ensuring pharmaceutical safety standards, the packaging also doubles as an educational and playful tool.
  2. Engagement over resistance – Instead of children resisting supplements, the package itself motivates them to participate willingly.
  3. Storytelling through packaging – The product communicates benefits visually, without the need for complex explanations.

Recognition

The design did not go unnoticed. At the Pentawards 2020, one of the world’s most prestigious packaging design competitions, PediaBest won the Bronze Award in the Baby & Kids category. This recognition put Iranian creativity on the global stage, proving that local talent can compete at the highest international levels.

Why It Matters

The PediaBest project is a powerful example of how packaging can go beyond aesthetics:
  • It builds trust with parents by appearing safe and professional.
  • It creates delight for children, turning something routine into something memorable.
  • It elevates brand value by winning global design recognition.

For agencies and brands, it’s a reminder that great packaging is not only about design it’s about experience.
